Do not interfere in forthcoming election – NANS warns minister

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has called on Bar. Solomon Dalung, the Minister of Youths and Sport Development, to desist from interfering in the forthcoming election of the Fourth Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.

Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, the Public Relations Officer of NAN issued the warning while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

Adeyemi called out Dalung over his constant negative and undue interference on youth matters, particularly elections, citing the example of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

Adeyemi warned that the students’ body would resist any attempt by Dalung or any ministry officials to interfere with their forthcoming election.

He said, “The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students wishes to use this medium to call on the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sport Development and the Minister, Bar. Solomon Dalung, not to interfere in the election of the leadership of the Fourth Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.

“As the intellectual component of the youth demography, we will resist any attempt by the Minister or any official of the Ministry to influence the election process of the leadership of this NYP Fourth session bill to be inaugurated next week.

“We frown at the level of ineptitude that Bar. Solomon Dalung has been exhibiting in the administration of young people in this country.

“We are not unaware that the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the only nationally recognised youth body by Federal Government of Nigeria has been in disarray for over a decade now and the minister who has spent over three years in office cannot even resolve this crisis amicably.

Adeyemi further cautioned the ministry senior management not impose any candidate on the youth Parliament.

“Suffice that we glean from the recollections of the lyrics of legendary Michael Jackson who admonishes us to “Heal the World” and draw the juiciest milk from the breast of universal humanity.

“Barrister Solomon Dalung, the Permanent Secretary and all concerned senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth & Sport are advised not to impose any leadership on the Fourth Session of Nigerian Youth Parliament,” he warned.
